The rumors of AMD’s new 28-nm Radeon HD 7970 from the Tahiti line are now official and should bring the new Mac Pro up to speed after a long wait. The Mac Pro line hasn’t been updated since 2010 and the cards currently supported have been criticized by enthusiasts for being 2009 junk when used in gaming.

With PCIE 3.0 expect 150% boost in performance with support for OpenCL and AMD CrossFire. I’m waiting for the new Mac Pros to drop in the first quarter and hopefully the base price $2499 packs a punch.

The CPU will be Ivy Bridge chipset, but I’m hoping that the lower models are still clocked well compared to the beast ones. Thunderbolt is a lock, but USB 3.0 would be nice as well.

Apple, yes we know laptops are selling more, but don’t forget about the professionals who are editing 6k video!
